Acclaimed for her vivid imagination, expressive depth, and technical brilliance, she is equally recognized for championing living composers through commissioning, premiering, and performing new works. Praised by the press as “a pianist of the highest technical standard,” she brings passion, curiosity, and artistic vision to both performance and teaching. In recognition of her outstanding contributions as a pedagogue, she was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in 2023. Deeply committed to keeping classical music a living and evolving art form, Ms. Kim actively commissions new works by living composers and explores collaborations with electronic music, dance, and video art. Her recent premieres include works by Christopher Stark, Leilehua Lanzilotti, Dan VanHassel, Juantio Becenti, and Darian Donovan Thomas. She has also premiered compositions by renowned composers including Steve Reich, Gunther Schuller, Frederic Rzewski, Richard Carrick, and Yoon-Ji Lee. In 2022, she was awarded the Classical Commissioning Grant from Chamber Music America, funded by the Mellon Foundation, to creating and presenting new chamber music. Her artistry has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Henry Cobos Endowed Piano Prize from the Eastman School of Music and the Emerging Artist Award from Boston's historic St. Botolph Club. She has performed throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Korea, presenting adventurous programming, and an unwavering commitment to contemporary music alongside the classical canon. An equally dedicated educator, Ms. Kim has taught at the New England Conservatory of Music and served as Visiting Professor of Piano at the Eastman School of Music during the 2022-2023 academic year. She earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Graduate Diploma, earning academic honors in each degree, from the New England Conservatory, and her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. Ms. Kim currently serves as Associate Professor of Piano and Director of the Keyboard Area at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she teaches the next generation of performers while fostering artistic excellence and creative exploration.
