Praised by international press as “a pianist who meets the highest standard of technique,” Angela Kim is a pianist who shows her versatility through colorful imagination, and intense musical expression.  As a sought-after pedagogue, Ms. Kim was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame in Spring 2023.  

In 2022, Ms. Kim received the Classical Commissioning Grants from the Mellon Foundation’s Chamber Music America which is one of the biggest chamber music grants in the United States.  Ms. Kim’s other awards include the prestigious Henry Cobos Endowed Piano Prize from the Eastman School of Music and an Emerging Artist Awards from the St. Botolph Club, one of the most historical foundations of arts, science, and literature in Boston, MA.

One of Ms. Kim’s artistic goals is to create well-thought-out programs that engage and challenge modern listeners.  As a classical pianist in the 21st century, Ms. Kim is committed to perform masterpieces from the traditional canon as well as pieces by living composers. Throughout her career, Ms. Kim has premiered works by many influential composers including Steve Reich, Gunther Schuller, Frederic Rzewski, Richard Carrick, and Yoon-Ji Lee.  Ms. Kim’s recent  premieres include pieces by Christopher Stark (2022 Rome Prize Fellow), Leilehua Lanzilotti (2022 Pulitzer Prize Finalist), and Molly Herron.  In 2024, Ms. Kim will be premiering pieces by Patrick O’Malley and Xavier Beteta.

Ms. Kim is a multimedia performance artist in A.mp with Peter John Kearney and Michael Boswell.  Their collective disciplines align on audio visual immersive experiences and live performances.  The group was formed in 2019 for their premier show called Chaos Magick. Since then, their work has expanded into broader experimentation on the bedrock of sound, movement, and visual exploration. 

Ms. Kim has performed throughout the United States, South America, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Korea.  Earning academic honors, Ms. Kim completed Bachelor, Masters, and Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory of Music.  She has finished her Doctorate of Piano Performance, and Literature, at the Eastman School of Music.  Upon graduation, she held a teaching position at New England Conservatory of Music as a Professor of Theory.  

Currently Ms. Kim is an Associate Professor of Piano, and Director of Keyboard Area at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  In 2022-2023, Ms. Kim has served as a Visiting Professor of Piano at the Eastman School of Music.
